I confirm this also happens with quarantine outfits. 2:40 pm in Belgium…20 minutes to go!

Thank you for describing it so well. I laughed aloud at “hoping to inflict the haunted ghost of what was once my good outfit on as few people as possible.” Right there with you. For me, one of the biggest catalysts to Expiration is the Ladies’ Room Lighting. It is not our friend.

With some luck you might be able to identify a poor student drowning in schoolwork underneath – or is it a ghost of myself?

Worst for me is wearing any high-waisted jean, by 3pm the waistline is completely messed up and folded over. Whatever shirt I happen to be wearing is likely wrinkled in that area too and I feel like I’m swimming in an outfit whose silhouette looked so great in the morning 🙁

The people commenting that the solution is to wear comfortable clothes are not helpful…eyeroll.

I’d say the solution is somewhere in the middle. The less (and less visible) make up, the better it looks during the days. So no heavy eye looks or too pronounced lips (unless lipstic is your main thing in which case it’s good tobfind a holy grail one and stick to it). “No make up” make up usually survives the day for me and if something smudges a bit it still looks pretty good.

It’s also closely connected and proportional with the amount of energy and effort (mental and physical (steaming, ironing, having it dry cleaned) I invested in it. It is never as pronounced with my “uniform” looks and fail proof, basic pieces, but wearing only those would be boring. Maybe it’s our expectation of the said outfit that slowly die throughout the day.

I wear winged eyeliner every single day. First things first, fluff bronzer over your eyes after foundation to eliminate dewiness. Secondly, NEVER wear liquid, it flakes, reflects light, disappears. Thirdly, you’ll only ever need Rimmel’s Exaggerate Waterproof kohl, it’s soft going on so you can sharpen the flick with a baby finger but then it sets in a few seconds and that’s it, vice grip. It melts off with remover but you can swim, splash water, sweat to your heart’s content and look sharp af all day. Waterproof mascara is a no brainer. I don’t want to be able to remove eye makeup with soap and water, too much scrubbing so it’s not scary using waterproof because any oil-based remover or even baby oil will have it gone in a flash.

Can’t keep them like that all day, so if I don’t like it mussed I’m going to be unhappy for half of it. I mean, really I’m lazy and don’t have too much pressure to look kempt in general. But I also believe that some clothes just wear better than others, and I have a particular affection for shirts that look great when they’re mussed.

Honestly, I am impressed you make it to 3 PM. With things that need to look neat, I’m usually shot by 11 AM.
